An imposing eighteenth Century pub in a quiet village in Breckland, at the gates of the National Trust's Oxburgh Hall. Formerly a coaching Inn,the Bedingfeld Arms has been recently renovated, and at the time of our visit in early October works relating to new facilities were ongoing.
Coming in through the front door, the bar faces you, in a room furnished with comfy chairs, an open fire and paraphernalia of local interest. Rooms laid up for dining to right and left, decorated in a restrained light style.
Not surprisingly, given its location, this seems primarily to be a dining pub, and the clientele on our lunchtime visit were predominantly middle aged National Trust members. Meals were good,if pricey:helpings reassuringly large. Service was friendly and efficient:they'd recently won an award for "front of house".Unfortunately, while well kept, the beer range was uninspiring-Broadside, Bombarier and the ubiquitous if welcome Wherry.
For lovers of whimsy, the hippyish figure lurking in the front garden turned out to be John Lennon:appropriately enough our visit coincided with what would have been his 75th birthday.

Refurbished and reopened after a period of closure in quite an upmarket style, as befits its location adjacent to a grand National Trust property. Largely aimed at food trade but offers several nice ales also. Very civilised.
