Large hotel seemingly set in prime walking country and offering a real wintry feel on my Friday afternoon visit just before Christmas.
The hotel is a good 20-30 minute drive from Kirriemuir along a single track road, through a snow-covered glen. A receptionist was on hand to greet me and to point me in the direction of the characterful bar at the far end of the corridor. Dining areas can be found on the left-hand side, with other entrances to accommodation.
I was the only customer in the bar, where real ale is no longer stocked. Whether this is a seasonal trend or a permanent one, I'm not sure. The keg choice was Heverlee, Orkney Gold, Magners & Tennent's Lager & Caledonia Best.
Lovely location, but not really worth the long drive from Kirriemuir, unless you're having a bit of a ramble or hike.
