A most beautiful setting among the high peaks of Glencoe but a massive disappointment as a pub.In the past an award winning real ale venue but that was in the days of the previous generation of owners, the two successor sons have let matters slip alarmingly. The 2025 GBG entry talks about 10 changing ales but on my trip ,and a previous trip by a more local friend just three ale options. On my trip that meant an out of condition Loch Lomond Ben Ime (NBSS 2),a watery Orkney Orca stout which ran out after the barmaid noted to another member of staff that it had taken a WEEK to shift (NBSS 2) and finally Orkney Dragon Head ,a lightweight stout at least drinkable NBSS 2.5.The whisky range is being run down ,the whisky menu was useless and the staff had no idea of what was available.
Although the food was hearty and well cooked in some desperation we decided to drink wine which was chemically ,not cheap and nasty.
There is an internal Bidean lounge with great views which was closed on a Thursday evening while the Boots Bar,which also has a snug, is around the side of the hotel . It is far more rustic ,has real fires and has the long bar where you can select ale,4 handpumped ciders, some indie beers from local brewers and mutinational kegs output.Live folk music most Saturdays, jam sessions on Sunday and meals here will be popular with folk from the hotel, campsite, walkers and car borne visitors.Taxis wont bother getting out here in the evenings.
The hotel is fine to stay at but this really isnt worth a visit for real ale.Such a shame and I can't see how it could stay in the GBG.

A famous walkers, climbers type of place on the old road at the bottom of spectacular Glen Coe, it is sign posted off the A82 and can also be reached from the village of Glencoe. It has three bars although we found it difficult to find the door to any of them due to confusing signs. Once inside we sat in the posher Bidean Lounge surrounded by mountain porn and climbing tackle, there is also a stuffed deer head known as the Monacle of the Glen. Not many handpulls on show here but a big list by the counter showed 10 or so ales although they can have up to 15. The beer came from the Boots Bar next door which appears to be more of a public bar and the more exciting place to drink, attached to this allegedly is the "Snug". Live music is performed in the Boots Bar. The beers came from smaller Scottish brewers and the quality was excellent.
