In addition to the residential accommodation, the Royal consists of a separate bar and lounge/restaurant, although the former was overcrowded and the latter deserted on the Saturday evening of my visit. Both are modern in style, with a rather artificial look. A pint of Tennent’s lager cost me £3 and Stella Artois, McEwan’s Red, Guinness, Tennent’s 60 Shilling, Caledonia Best and Magner’s cider are also on draught. Despite the words “Real Ales” appearing on the exterior wall and two hand pumps adorning the bar top, there was no real ale actually on sale. This is the closest pub to Girvan station, but there are much better options a short walk away in the town centre.
