we found this lovely pub with very sympathic owner and family by accident.........
it wasn't an accident at all, we have been here 3 times in 6 days enjoying the cosy atmosphere, the good drinks and very good meals (fresh and made with love) and it was hard to say goodbye...
we wish the inn , Alex, his wife and children, and the local visitors all the best! Hope to see you again

Recently stayed in St. Monans from July 11th thru the 18th and on our sightseeing excursions up north, we passed the Staghead a couple of times and finally decided to stop to eat. Alec was great and even made some calls for us to check up on some scheduling issues for us. The first time 6 of us stopped and were seated in the lobby/bar area to await our table. Thought that a bit strange (we are from Texas) but really enjoyed just relaxing with a couple of pints and visiting after driving around all day before having to get to the business of eating. After getting in the dining room, we all ordered something different. I know Anstruther is supposed to have the best fish and chips in Scotland, but we tried the ones at the 'famous' place and they were not in the same league as the Staghead. The venison stew was excellent as was the steak pie. The salmon dishes were raved about. We ended up stopping by three more times over our stay and always enjoyed the attentive waitstaff and the outstanding food and drink. Also enjoyed petting Stella when she was in the bar. I may never make it back to that area, but if I do, the Staghead will be on my list of must stops.

Built in 1610 this is truly an old style pub. The Staghead Inn has Letting Rooms, Public bar, Lounge Bar, Restaurant & Beer Garden with ample parking for Coaches. The food is Traditional and all home made with fish dishes, pasta dishes & meat dishes. We also have live folk music in the lounge bar every second Thursday so come & listen or join in..
