Entering the pub is a bit like walking into someones house,there is a central corridor with two rooms off either side.However the rear of the building opens out and this is where the bar is situated.In this rear lounge there are various sections with some raised semi circular seating booths (for the young),and a lot of high backed chairs.This is an Embers Inn but not one of the chain with an ale focus.Three handpumps with London Pride,TT Golden Best and a guest of Courage Directors,and liberal use of line chillers means the ale is served at lager temperature ,no tight sparkler on my TT beers resulted in an indifferent pint ,even once it had warmed up.The food offering is the main draw,with £8 for two meal deals midweek lunchtimes and early doors.There is a large paved patio outside,the only place under 14 are allowed.Quiz night on Wednesday's and Sunday's and the staff are unfailingly polite and cheerful,there is less for customers to smile about.
