New building. They've gone for a set of colourings that make the tidy island bar interior even more gloomy than it should be, cappuccino and brown. Some circular swooping Art Deco style touches of note. 5x guest ales were all from Milestone. My Pacific Islander was in very good shape (NBSS 4) and the pub is GBG listed. Turn the wattage up and I’ll give you an extra point. Good shout from Strongers regarding the similarity to Spoon’s Stourbridge outlet.

Strongers . left this review about The Stag & Pheasant (Lloyds No 1)
The Stag & Pheasant is a Lloyds No. 1 with a central island serving counter that supports five hand pumps, four of which were in use drawing Ruddles, Doom Bar, Abbot Ale and Oakham’s Kingdom, a very poor selection for a Spoons. There’s a mix of high and standard seating up the right and there’s another smaller bar that was closed at the rear under a mezzanine seating area where the toilets are also located. Architecturally this is an interesting pub that reminded me of another Spoons outlet, the Chequers Inn in Stourbridge. It was quiet for a JDW, especially on a Thursday evening, but there were some ‘characters’ that included a raving grandad who was off his nut dancing on the front decking and two charlie heads who were whizzing about the place, I think looking for Sonic the Hedgehog. This place is worth a look for the décor, but I don’t know many that would stay for an extended period.

With the closure of the nearby Widow Frost a few weeks back, this is Mansfield's sole remaining branch of Wetherspoon's. It doesn't look much from the outside, but is quite impressive inside with a tall ceiling and limited seating on a mezzanine level, where toilets can also be found.
There are 2 bars, one a circular one not far from the entrance and a further one to the rear left-hand side. The second one was unmanned on my late Tuesday evening visit. In fact, there were only a few other customers rattling about inside.
The chief barman was a friendly and chatty chap and was grateful for him accepting my 50p CAMRA voucher for a couple of halves, which is not standard practice. This allowed me to try a couple of different beers, without having to have a pint. To be honest, none of the 3 halves I sampled were really to my taste. So, a pint would have been too much.
The usual suspects (Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar) were all on. Guests were Daleside Monkey Wrench, Milestone Cromwell Best Bitter, Pheasantry Stag & Pheasant Pale Ale & Aither Artemis. Weston's Old Rosie cider was also available.
Not the best 'spoon's I've been in, but an extra point for the above average service.
