This pub appears to have been taken over recently as the sign advertising its availability is still on display - unless they are moving on already! It's a Marstons pub which, on my admittedly short acquaintance, appears to be too big for the village. The original building has been added to, as can be seen from my photo, and the entrance is now at the side, through these newer parts, with the front door long since made redundant. There are four hand pumps on the bar, which is in the front right of the original building; there's another bar counter in the room at the rear with four more hand pumps. Just two beers on, Marstons EPA and Ringwood Razor Back. I've had the Razor Back a couple of times elsewhere and found it to be a fairly decent beer; the half I had here was getting pretty old and verging on being banana-ish. This on a Monday afternoon, which suggests that either the beer is not popular locally or simply that not enough people are going to the pub. The couple running the place are trying to attract people in, to judge by the posters and flyers - I presume they've sent them around the village and not just put them up in the pub! The food listed on the blackboard looks reasonably inexpensive - certainly compared with the other pubs in this extended village - but they need to get the beer right, or it'll be keg only before you know it.

I went to this pub with great expectations as I had heard good things. The pub itself seemed very pleasant as was the beer which I would have considered going back another time for that alone but I was told that they constantly change the beers as they are merely Guest Ales. My friend and I ordered a Sunday roast each which at £7.95 per dinner you would think would be pretty good, Wrong!!.. all I can say is if Gordon Ramsey had eaten here the air would probably have turned blue....The roast potatoes( 2 tiny pieces of potato) were cremated beyond belief as was the yorkshire pudd, whilst the lamb was as tough as old boots.I usually appreciate vegetables shouln't be over cooked but they were almost raw.The wine was ok though...!
Despite the staff being friendly and hospitable, it was quite obvious to me that the Chef is clearly incompetent and I shan't be returning.
