This is a bar and eatery in the basement of a fantasatic looking late Victorian red brick building. Back in the 80s it was a part of the British Telecom empire within Birmingham - indeed, i had a job interview here and if i remember correctly, the building stands on the corner where the first traffic lights were installed in Brum. Anyhow - you go down a few steps and you anter a large L-shaped room - with the bar to your right, with accompanying lounge area, and the dining at the back. There is a DJ booth one end (it turns into a club). The lounge has sofas and high metal stools with glass tables (with flowers in vases on them). I didn't see a TV and the music was easy stuff at a decent level. The decor cream and white walls and ceiling, with a blue carpet, in the lounge bit. The service was fine and there were just a couple in at my early visit. There are a few mirrors, but no pictures. Beer; no real ale, just a couple of lagers on draught, with cider, and Guinness - which was OK. The Staropramen had gone. Not what you expect from the name - more a place of the suits than for machete wielding woodsmen.

The usual lager type offerings were on sale when I went in here two weeks ago (San Miguel etc) but (not surprising for a place with an Aussie name) nothing for the real ale drinker. Given its Australian sounding name, though, there was absolutely Australian about it.
A rather bland type of place but still busy with the post Friday work crowd. Not of my natural choices.

This was my B3 selection for Birmingham postcode crawl, and it does not open on Sundays so could not review. Notice at the door shows open Mon - Wed 12 to 8pm, Thus - Fri 12 - 12, and available for hire Saturday. Another notice says food, ales and champagne.
