Better than I expected for a roadhouse on the A53. I managed to get a photo without any vehicles in shot, which was my main purpose in stopping, but a celebratory half of Theakston Quencher went down very well, even though it was only NBSS 2.5. The other cask ale was Doom Bar, as might have been expected. Worth a stop to recharge the batteries.

A large detached pub and eatery, in cream render and coffee beams, with beer garden and grounds. A former Georgian coaching inn.

The interior has a couple of rooms at least. There is a small bar room in white and a dark wallpaper, which had a pool table and dart board, along with a TV showing daytime stuff. The main spacious lounge/dining room is in a red artex, white artex, wood panel, with some undressed brick, with a white and white painted beam ceiling. It has a fine wood surround fire place and a nice central arch feature. It is a foody room, but i felt at ease just having a drink and didn't even see the menu, so i can't comment on the food. There were some bits of brass ephemera and a few pictures of the pub on the walls and several mirrors. There was a TV in this room, but it wasn't on and no music. The service was fine and a few locals kept me company, though i can imagine this place would attract a wider clientele in better weather.

Beer; tap stuff, with Abbots Ale, Bombardier, Directors and a decent Adnams American on handpull.

This is a tidy place and worth a visit, i would more than happily go back.
