Located in Piries Place at the edge of a square is B52s that I visited on a recent Saturday morning. The advertised opening time is 09:00 (10:00 on Sundays), but this is a little early for me so I rocked up at around 11:30. The interior consists of a conservatory to the right and an area with faux beams and a couple of televisions for showing Sky and BT Sports to the left. These were both off, but there was some background music playing through some low quality speakers. The day’s newspapers were available from the bar and there was also a selection of nuts in some glass jars. A standard keg range was available and a large selection of spirits for making cocktails lined the back bar. These cocktails are £6 between midday and 20:00, I am unsure of the price out of these hours.
The only other customers were a group of pensioners who were enjoying an early lunch. A light menu was available with such things as ciabattas, wraps and jacket potatoes.
When the weather permits seating is placed outside the front where there are chalk boards and posters advertising B52s’ facilities and upcoming events. These include poker from 20:00 on Mondays, Live acoustic music on the last Friday of every month and live music advertised for the upcoming Easter weekend. The advertised closing time is after midnight and there is an extension until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. The ‘Hanger Bar’ is a function room with a capacity of 50 people which is available for hire.
I found the service to be friendly, but the area around the bar was extremely sticky. Maybe there had been a recent spillage and they hadn’t had a chance to mop it before my visit. I wouldn’t return here again just for a beer, but I would pop in for some lunch.
