Brief visit, found it as good as ever. Had a very tasty Burning Sky pale followed by a stout from Vale, both very good. And a 10% CAMRA members discount.

In complete contrast to the previous pub on my brief visit to St Albans, the Great Northern's brightly lit and the haunt of youth and the working man & woman. It offers 4 ales, in a fairly mainstream style, the most exciting being a London Brewery Oyster Stout. An equally middle of the road keg selection includes a house lager (I didn't enquire). Old pump clips all over the wall suggest a more radical range than I encountered, so perhaps I just chose the wrong day.
There's pubs for all sorts and this one probably isn't for the ale connoisseur. I've been, and I don't suppose I'll be back, given the choice in this town (or city if you prefer).

A lively pub with six handpumps serving a changing range of ales - the Siren Broken Dream was very nice indeed. Now describing itself as a "pub and kitchen", it did feel a bit Boho and slightly trendified, but not in too much of a bad way. Sadly this was a rather brief visit as the last port of call heading back to the station but we could happily have stopped here for longer.
