A slightly rough modern bar beside the river, with a smell of cigarette smoke which I am sure was on customers' clothes rather than in the atmosphere. I was a little surprised to see three hand pumps, Wye Valley HPA and Butty Bach, plus Sharps Doom Bar, and I went for the HPA and went to sit down and look around me - there was horse racing on the TV. After a few minutes a man who had been sitting at the bar came over and brought with him a different half of HPA. It turns out that, rough as he looked, he was the licensee, and had spotted that my beer was not as crystal clear as it should have been, though I hadn't noticed any deterioration of taste. Whether this replacement was from a new barrel or he'd just pulled some stale beer through the pipes - quite likely the latter, since only one or two others among a dozen punters were drinking real ale - it was certainly in tip top condition. I don't know if this is typical of his behaviour, or whether he just thought I was one of those people who writes reviews of pubs. (Surely not.) Either way, I was quietly impressed and thanked him again when I left.

The loud music blasting out into the street on our Friday afternoon was quite offputting, along with the tatty looking exterior, the canopy was filthy looking. Three ales on handpump Doombar, Butty Bach and HPA. The Butty Bach was passable, still it was handy to sit near the river, as they have a designated section of bench seating out front.

Well described below. I had a quick half from Wye Valley which was fine. Nice to sit by the river on a good day!
