Well, the previous reviewer and I have a different idea of what gentrified means. Expensive? Yes. Barbour jackets and subtle check patterns on shirts, cravat possibly optional? Not so much. This is an eclectic bar that attracts a diverse clientele, though I have to admit that I was old enough to have fathered everyone here, if only I'd been so active.

On first entering and spotting the sole - naked - hand pump I was nonplussed. This pub had "three beer glasses" for cask beer quality on CAMRA's website. When challenged, the barman immediately said he would put a beer on. (This was Tuesday evening, so not much demand, I guess.) When he started pulling the water through to clear the line, I said what about a whisky while you do that. I don't know if it was that which prompted him to give me the first pint through "on the house". There is a substantial whisky collection here - above 300, I would guess - and I chose a Bunnahabhain that was pretty much out of my league at £12 for 25ml. One of the bar hangers asked if I was crazy and the barman passed it on to me. "Working on it", I said.
