Real Ale Ray left this review about The Tempus Bar (Hotel Russell)
I agree with Clive that this is a haven of calm and that this traditional hotel bar is very much in keeping with the opulent deco of the Russell's splendid foyer. Our second visit here now and still no ale in any shape or form. Still it was Mrs A's round, so I went for a G&T, must have cost her a packet.

This is very much a hotel bar but is open to the public. Go in the main entrance, turn right and walk straight ahead to find it. It’s a real haven of calm and you have the feel of walking into a library. In fact the décor is a little reminiscent of an old library with lots of wood panelling, high ceilings, hanging gas-style lamps and weathered leather seating. There are a few bookcases around and a large decorative carriage clock and an oil painting sitting atop an open fireplace. I half expected Noel Coward to stroll through in a smoking jacket. The drink selection wasn’t much, just Petermen and Stella from the Artois stable on draught at £4 a pint plus a few bottles and a decent wine and spirit selection. Staff are attentive offering table service (although you can order at the bar) and bring around small bowls of snacks and peanuts. If you are looking for an escape from the crowded pubs and incessant noise of a London evening this is a good laid back place for a drink.

A haven of peace and tranquillity amongst the general madness around here. I often call in for a pint when staying in the nearby Holiday Inn. In fact I watched the 2008 Champions League final here when Man Utd beat Chelsea on penalties. I was the only Utd fan in the place. It's not cheap and there's no real ale, but it is very pleasant.
