Not a pub at all, but a very large fish and chip restaurant with a bar counter. It takes up a disproportionate amount of the pier, and there are several take-away outlets for the food in addition to the bar, so you have to push your way through a loud, malodorous throng at peak times to arrive, finally, at the highly disappointing restaurant area. No real ale (not surprisingly) and the foreign female behind the bar’s English was so poor that we ended up pointing at a tap which dispensed something other than the advertised cider. To be fair, the fish and chips was fine, if a little over-priced. It was no better or worse than expected and is part of the British seaside experience, take it or leave it.

This is neither a typical dingy pier bar (try the nearby Gaiety for that) nor just the fish and chips takeaway outlet of the same name you walk past first but quite a smart bar / restaurant with modern furniture, light decor and (of course) picture windows. There is also a patio area outside on the deck. No real ale unfortunately, so went for the 5.5% Blue Point Toasted Lager (a new one on me, £2.75, half) and enjoyed the view on a fabulous spring day.

This is actually on the pier [free entry to pier], I assume it is year round but check before venturing out in gale force 8 on a wet Wednesday in February
