Nelsons Bar, Gosport

Formerly The Star (not to be confused with today's Star, the Wetherspoons just a few doors away), Nelson's is a former coaching inn on what is now the pedestrian shopping area, the centre of Gosport's night life. The ground floor is taken up with a large bar, while the upstairs is run as Emma's, Gosport's only nightclub, presumably after Horatio Nelson's mistress. Both the pub and the club are very well run, and any trouble dealt with quickly and professionally. The main bar has been recently refurbished and is in good order. The Bar Manager, Steve, took time to come and speak to us, and we felt welcomed. There was only one ale on, Doombar, but it was well past its best, and although this was replaced without any argument, the only alternative was megakeg. A very well run pub which is worth dropping into for an early evening pint if the beer is on form.
