Primarily a hotel and restaurant, but the landlady made it very clear that we were welcome in the bar, which is open to non-residents. There is a large car park at the side, from which the main entrance is now used to enter the establishment as the front door, right on a main road, is usually locked. On entry you go left into the residential section, which includes a private residents’ bar, and right to go the the restaurant and bar areas. The bar is large, open and airy, yet remains comfortable and pleasant. The staff were really pleasant, and there were one or two locals enjoying a quiet pint. It’s civilised and agreeable, though sadly let down slightly by its beer quality. Two ales on draft, Otter Ale and Exmoor Ale, both a bit stale though still drinkable, just. I’d be happy to come back, maybe to eat, and I’d hope that the beer is better next time.
