Good to see the revival of a pub that had been closed for some time. It's looking very smart, with a multi-roomed appearance that owes much to modern partitions and the imaginative use of wood both old and new. There's a solid fuel stove, tiled floors and traditional Britannia tables with chairs, benches and stools. The beers, on six hand pumps, are a mix of three from the Marstons stable and three others from localish breweries (at the time of my visit Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham were represented - see photos). I would have liked this pub better without the subdued background music, but the beer was in good condition.

This 400 year old pub was shut for two years and was heading for demolition a few months ago. It is now in the safe hands of Holbrook Community Society, after a highly successful campaign to save it.
The pub reopened on the 16th July after finding a very enthusiastic tenant.
This historic pub also has a great view over the Amber valley. We called last Saturday afternoon and the pub had a good atmosphere, there was 6 ales on handpump so we went for the Shiny Brewery Happy People and Totally Brewed Slap in the Face, which were in excellent shape. The interior of the pub had lots of exposed oak beams and oak timberwork. The bar had a pine counter and a patterned brick bar front, which looked to be from reclaimed and hand casted bricks maybe from part of the pub. There was also an Inglenook fireplace under construction, with a new sandstone shaped mantle and black granite base, ready for a large wood burning stove to be fitted. This pub is well worth a visit and was well supported on our visit.

The Spotted Cow in Holbrook now has 225 new owners after a community group collected the keys for its local village pub.Hoping to have the pub open its doors by the summer - and are searching for tenants to run it.
