Will Larter left this review about The Flute
A large corner pub aimed at students, with numerous screens showing sports, a couple of pool tables at the back and a long bar counter on the right with mainstream kegs aplenty, and two hand pumps with Wainwright Amber and Hobgoblin Gold. I went for the former, and it was carefully poured with a moderate head and was as smooth and tasty as I have ever had this beer (NBSS 4, £3.70/pint), though it's still not an impressive beer; and no, I didn't have another.

Still reasonably cheap however the handpulls have been reduced to 3. Its still has loads of tellies and the layout is still the same open plan stuff. Oh, the three handpulls all had Doom Bore clips on and its awful stuff, even by Doom Bore standards. Reasons To Be Miserable pt 10 to be honest. There are much, much, much better pubs nearby.

Cheapest pub on Hardman St. Can be full of student types and gets busy whenever the footy is on the telly. A couple of real ales available. 6

to be honest it may be quite cheap but it's just crap. dreadful big open plan room, and typically of Stonegate aimed squarely at the local students. the place has no character at all and there are umpteen better places to drink on this street alone.
