This pub has a plush interior and is well worth a visit for its splendour. The pub consists of polished brass chandeliers and highly finished timberwork, a tiled entrance and an elaborate bar area. Same ales as the last review, two Rudgate and a Sam's Chop House bitter. Expect to pay top end prices, staff were very welcoming and professional.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Sams Chop House
Two things strike you on entering Sam's Chop House: firstly the "are you dining today" greeting, and secondly the fairly grand furniture and decor. The entry leads into a smallish bar/lobby, with a rather larger raised dining area to one side. Three real ales on handpump, offering Rudgate Viking and Jorvik plus Sam's (Coach House) Best Bitter (£3.40). Overall, I felt slightly out of place sitting in a comfy chair just having a quick pint but the barman was friendly enough.

This place used to be the Fat Cat before it was taken over by the same people who own Sam's & Mr Thomas's chop houses in Manchester. The decor hasn't changed very much since the Fat Cat days. The raised area to the left is now given over to restaurant dining, which is where we ate on Saturday. The bar has one long high table and chairs, a few bar stools and a couple of comfy seats. It's nicely lit with a number of chandeliers and the bar back is quite impressive. On the bar are a couple of handpulls selling Sam's Best (brewed by Coach House) & Sam's Pale (brewed by Leeds) both were fine, although surprisingly the Best was better than the Pale. It's a pricey pub for both beer and food (£3.20 for Pale), but it is high quality. I had Brown Onion Soup followed by home made Steak Pudding after which I was stuffed and had to walk it off by going to Mr Foleys :-)). It's a good place, but it's not one for a session, more of a place to take the other half and yet still be able to drink cask ale.
