A detached pub and eatery, with small front beer patio and i believe a rear one too. The pub is a 1930s rebuild of an older pub on the site. It is near symmetrical with a slightly offset entrance and is in undressed brick.
The interior has a central island wood bar that serves the two open plan areas. To the left on entering is an L-shaped lounge, which is in white and red heavy artex, white ceiling and carpet floor. There are tables and pouffe seats and the room ends with a fireplace and a TV showing something or other. There were a couple of Jack Vettriano prints on the walls. To the right on entry there is the L-shaped bar area, which culminates as it turns in a dining area with a laminate floor. The decor is white wallpaper and red, with a white ceiling and a carpet floor. A mirror was on the wall, otherwise it was bare. They do an eat-in and take-away menu, but i didn't eat so can't comment on that. There is a TV, which was showing the footy and a pool table. There was no background music. The service was functional, the guy behind the bar seemingly unsure as how to cope with a stranger. The clientele were all locals enjoying some good banter with each other over the footy on TV.
Beer; no real ale, all the usual keg stuff. At my last visit some years back I had a Highgate MILD. It was off. The tap was still there, though not on, but they had Banks's MILD in it's place - so i had that. The quality had rised to pretty poor. Again, I failed to finish it.
One for the locals.
