Renamed from The Live Lounge since my previous review, this is unchanged in terms of layout and much of the decor, but it has lost the LP’s and photographs and a few licks of paint have given the DJ booth, and other woodwork a contrasting deep salmon hue.
There were some very blingy light fittings on the ceiling and a very naff looking electric fire had been fitted to the fire-place at the rear. A number of plasmas were dotted around, along with a massive projection screen that on this occasion was showing the lyrics to the karaoke. When there weren’t any punters singing, the DJ was enthusiastically filling in.
Still no real ales on unfortunately, just John Smith’s Extra Smooth on keg. The cider situation had improved though, with Thatcher’s Gold, Thatcher’s Dry and Strongbow Dark Fruit.

This is in many ways more of a cocktail bar rather than your traditional pub, although as it’s name suggests there is also something of an emphasis on live music and there was a large stage in the corner with some very big speakers. The barman informed us that there was going to be karaoke on later, although when we left at 9:00pm there was nobody else in there so it hardly seemed worth staying open. A lighting rig across the centre of the pub continued the music theme.
Décor wise it is fairly unremarkable with rough wooden boards on the floor, cream wood panelling on the ceiling and a red neon strip light around the perimeter. An old wooden fire-place was at the rear which had unfortunately been blocked up. This was a shame as it was several degrees too cold in there and I kept my coat on the whole time. Presumably the “warm welcome” referred to on their website must be in the metaphorical sense. There were a number of old vinyl LP’s stuck on the walls as well as pictures of musicians and American cityscapes. The corridor leading to the loos was lined with black and white photographs of starts such as David Jason, The Two Ronnie’s and Kenneth Williams.
Unfortunately there were no ales on tap, real or otherwise, whilst the solitary cider was Thatcher’s Gold, although this was at least priced at a reasonable £3.00. A notice on the wall advertised various cocktail and shots deals.

The bar is proud of it's large selection of (up to 100) different bottled beers covering a large number of countries. In general a relaxed pub though it can get busy at weekends. Has now added a simple food menu and often hosts acoustic bands plus occasionally comedy evenings. For the British ale fans there are usually up to 20 different bottled ales (currently including Bath, Glastonbury and Otter breweries) kept out of the fridge and up to half a dozen ciders.
