Will Larter left this review about The Albion

The Albion is no longer run by local Stancill Brewery, as reported here: https://thehootleeds.com/sheffield/beloved-sheffield-pub-to-enter-new-era-as-local-beer-expert-takes-ownership/. A condition of the lease is that at least two Stancill beers will be on the bar, and the manager told me there will always be their Barnsley Bitter, and at the moment they have Stancill Lager and also Harlequin Pale, which I thought was very good but apparently it's not selling very well. Among the 12 keg taps I spotted beers from Track, Abbeydale and Triple Point, plus Estrella Damm, Guinness and Peroni. I had a half of the Abbeydale Black Mass 6.66%, which was £3.50 but very good (ie not gassy or too cold and as good as I'm used to in cans). Some refurbishment has been taking place, but it's been fairly restrained and with respect for the building, including the fireplace in the gents with the date 1750 carved in the sandstone lintel, and the bar counter which seems unchanged apart from some new looking hand pumps. The people who have taken this old pub on seem enthusiastic, so let's hope this will be a new lease of life for the old pub.

The Albion now has a hanging sign above the door, but it was raining too hard today to get a photo of it. In the corner behind the bar there's an impressive mural based on a giant octopus, but incorporating what looks like an alternative inn sign. There are usually just five hand pumps on the bar these days, and I haven't seen any guest beers since before Covid. Today there were just three beers on, including one of my favourites from Stancill, No.7 Pale 4.3%. Unfortunately it was a little hazy and very cold; quite possibly the former being caused by the latter. The beer's been fine on my other visits this year, so I hope this is just a one-off. In more bad news, the price of a pint has gone up from £3 to £3.30 since two weeks ago.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Albion

Very anonymous-looking pub, not helped by the dull grey paintwork and a seeming absence of exterior signage. Limited window space, low lighting and generally reddish decor don't really help once inside either. As a Stancill outlet, all seven handpumps were dispensing its own beers (eg. Folk Forest, £1.25, half) when we visited. As you can tell, I didn't really take to this place on my first visit, but there is enough here to give it another try.
