Tucked away down a short side street, and faced by a large university car park, the Ducie Arms seems out of place in this part of student town. I actually thought it was closed early on a recent midweek afternoon, but as I was hesitantly approaching the door was kindly opened by the other customer. To the right of the entrance is a small seating area with fireplace, but this was roped off. Steps lead up to the bar area where there are a couple of tables that are faced by a serving counter that runs across the rear wall. In the front left, across the left hand windows, is a sunken seating area that is accessed from the bar. The attractive wooden carved bar counter supports six hand pumps, but only one ale was available, that being Wadworth’s Horizon. Fans of cider are better catered for with three Lilley’s ciders being available. Premium and craft keg was also available. Free water is offered, but the plastic cup costs £1, for charity. I got the feeling the governor has had some run ins with the local student population, could be wrong though. In the corner of the bar is a flight of stairs that I think may lead up to a function room. This pub has restricted opening hours of 16:00 – close Tuesday to Friday. It is also available for private hire at the weekend. I thought it was OK in here, but it is too far out of the way to warrant a revisit.

Hidden away round the corner, over the fence, behind the building and over there. This is a good old traditional pub. A few real ales available and an outside area at the front to enjoy fair weather drinking. I liked it. Marstons Oyster stout on T-bar.

The Ducie Arms is an oldish pub that is stood on its own on a short street.
Once inside i went in the bar and this was a decent enough room i am not sure if there were any other rooms.
This pub was a Burtonwood tied house and there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Burtonwood bitter and this was a very nice drink the other beer was Burtonwood mild.
I thought this was a decent enough pub to have a couple of drinks in.
