The original pub of that name was located in a building from around 1700, just a few yards up Chatham Hill. It was first listed as a beer house in 1754. The business moved to its current building in around 1902 and has changed little since then. It's been owned by Style and Winch and Courage breweries in the past. Today it is a spit-and-sawdust pub but without the sawdust. The wooden floor in the single u-shaped bar appears original, while what few seats there are had all been slashed. The clientele appear to be those whose blood alcohol level equals their IQ. The staff were stoical but pleasant, though one individual was more spiv than mine host. It's a piece of living social history, but unless you're a masochistic sociologist who doesn't like real ale (there is none here) or a local you probably won't enjoy coming here.

The Little Crown is a small U shaped pub with basic décor and not much seating. Around to the left of the bar is a pool table and to the right is a dartboard. The plasma screen was off and I didn’t spot any signs for Sky Sports, but there was some music playing off the jukebox.
I didn’t see any food advertised and the bar is stocked with a limited selection of draught products. I plumped for a half of some generic lager which smelt a bit iffy and was only half drunk.
I would walk past this pub if I found myself in the area again.
