Substantial pub, now a 'Bar & Grill', set back from the road by a sizeable (if sparsely tabled) patio terrace, with an elongated room housing the bar and a pool table and a side lounge / dining area curiously set behind a full-height glazed screen. Plain, semi-modern furniture and grey paintwork throughout. A restaurant can also be found at the back, located up a short flight of steps, and this seemed to be doing good business. However, the hope raised by seeing two handpumps was soon dashed by seeing reversed Doom Bar and 6X clips, so it was the keg M&B Mild (£2.60) before moving on.

Now the New Hen & Chickens bar and grill. The usual array of fizzy stuff with no real ale. Smart and modern and the food smelt great but nothing to make me call again.

A detached pub with patio area. It is on the site of a Victorian pub, which i think is still there, it is just a modern brick extension dominates the front. The older part is in cream render. The interior has a single long room, that i saw. This is in a tired decor, the colour of which was difficult to discern, as the lights were off. The brown carpet was in a very worn state. There is a pool table and a dart board (and at least you know you can't make the decor worse), and a few old trophies for decoration and the odd picture. There was no music. The service was ok and there was some fun banter between the locals and the bar staff. Beer; no real ale, no keg MILD, i had a shandy. A spit 'n' sawdust place, with nothing for the real ale fan - one for the locals.
