Three handpumps dispensing TT LL, Adnams Ghost Ship and Southwold Bitter. The keg options were Brooklyn Stonewall IPA, Asahi, Camden Hells, Madri, Neck Oil, Jubel Peach, Guinness, Peroni, the Tiny Rebel Rebel IPA, Lucky Saint, Aspall, Ghost Faith from Northern Monk, the Cosmic Drop Berry Punch from Beavertown and the Peckham Pale from Brick Brewery.
Quite large bare boarded venue apart from a small black and white chessboard tile skirt around the bar counter. The bar counter is against the rear wall and has service on the front and left-hand sides. To the right of the front entrance the area is on two levels, with a single step between, with regular tables laid for diners and regular chairs plus a dark leather banquette against the rear wall. To the left of the entrance is a leather banquette in the bay window with a table served by tall leather stools the other side thereof. The rest of the area around the bar counter is served by a variety of seating arrangements, tall tables, some regular tables, and some Chesterfield sofas. The far-left hand side has a mid-brown leather banquette serving regular tables and there is a chunky booth table just before you reach it. In front of that booth table, and at the rear is an open kitchen. TV’s were showing the cricket on my visit absent sound, indeed there was no music being played which made for a quiet stay as the inside was v quiet. Outside, much busier not surprisingly on a good weather day, there is a wraparound paved patio area with patio style furniture with a structure in the far-left hand corner providing some outside inside dining served by its own kitchen suggesting it is for private dining.

Part of the M & B Castle faction and dating from 1861, this is a commanding edifice on the edge of The Green, in what estate agents would probably term Winchmore Hill ‘village’; it has undoubtedly been rebuilt and probably in the 1930s, displaying some fine stepped Dutch gables and diaper work.
Sadly, the interior has essentially been completely modernised with no obvious heritage, a new pale floor, modern bar back, chequered bar apron, walls of either slate grey or exposed natural brick (see photos); furniture is modern leatherette and there’s an open kitchen. Customers were mixed, ranging from some alarmingly intimidating heavily tattooed ladz, then a general mix but seemingly all Brummies, given the enthusiastic support for Aston Villa, shown on multiple TVs at uncomfortable volume.
Cask amounted to just Pride and TTL, £3.40 a half and pretty good, served by a fungible barman.
This pub is ok, but despite just Original and Special, I far preferred the King’s Arms across the road.

This was our second pub to visit on our evening crawl around Winchmore Hill and surprisingly this pub was just as big and impressive as the King's Head. The layout in here was open plan and the décor was predominantly green paintwork, with a touch of dark grey around the bar front and black and white tiles surrounding the bar floor. Lots of large timber tables and chesterfield settees made some good seating options for groups of people to have a meet up. Four handpumps on the bar serving Sharps Doombar, Sharps Atlantic, TT Landlord and St Austell Proper Job. I went for The TT landlord, which was exceptionally good. The service at the bar was friendly and efficient and the pub was spick and span, so all in all, quite a decent pub for a chain outlet.
