There was only one real ale on - Timothy Taylor Landlord at £6.50 a pint. I didn't look at the menu, but a chalkboard above one of the fireplaces advertised "a chefs (sic) daily special" of a roast beef sandwich - £12.50 with a choice of chips or salad. Incidentally, when I was in during Friday lunchtime none of the tables were laid for diners, nor was there a menu on my table. In short, it was nothing like the pseudo restaurant found by previous reviewers.

The pub is now totally modernised; perhaps the brick-built firepaces are original. There's a peninsular servery with what looks like a brick bar-back with an array of keg fonts protuding from the bottom of it. The furnishings were normal tables and chairs.

It was not busy during my Friday lunchtime visit, with just a half-dozen or so of us in there, some of us tucking into the roast beef sandwich. I found it to be a quiet (just some low level background music) and comfortable pub with a friendly and welcoming barman.

Originally the Edinburgh Castle later Tree House, this is a mid/late-19th century pub, renamed the Crossing in 2021 after the eponymous and seemingly forever closed level crossing just down the road.
With almost all tables laid for dining, the interior features herringbone parquet floor, dark grey window frames, ochre rag washed walls and dull gold ceiling. There’s a rough, decorative bare brick fireplace to the rear, an operational coal effect gas affair to the front. Décor comprises masses of eclectic trendy prints; lighting is tres à la mode. The bar array is – naturally – bare brick with square section tubular steel racking; customers were your typical older middle class Barnes denizens, certainly too old for the jeans they were wearing.
The cask choice amounted to just an unused pump then Sussex Best, £3.00 a half and in good nick, served atop a studded zinc bar top.
As mentioned by Steve of N21, this is really now more of a restaurant than pub - though nothing like as 'restaurant' as the Watermans - my drink perhaps a little easier to come by had it not been a Thursday at almost 10.00pm; the Brown Dog is just across the way. Which is nearly a restaurant.

Nice warm pub/rest with an open fire No real ale but Meantime -pale and Maxim -Swedish Blond on keg which after warming up was a good beer.Loads of outside seating at he rear with a thatched style roof with fairy lights. Mishmash but nice garden furniture. Strange stickman toilet signs but you have a 50/0 chance of getting it right. All it needs is a good real ale.
