Truly a rustic gem, well off the beaten track but on the Wolds Way near Market Weighton. Its village ale house roots are apparent when looking at the outside. Modernised but with the lightest of touches most internal walls remain in place forming a corridor to the counter with a room off to each side. You will need to avoid the piano and motorcycle stored in the hallway. The counter has two faces and 8 hand pumps although two are unconnected and are only there to display the beers on in the other room, a blackboard behind shows the list. It will be a mix of permanently on beers and guests, Wold Top and Sam Smiths are among the permanents and Old Peculier is served from the wood. Décor is rural nick nacks hanging from the ceiling, copper pots, tankards etc, plus a pair of skis, a couple of old maps are also in keeping with the overall design. The beer was excellent, competitively priced (£2 - £2.50) and the pub has unsurprisingly won many CAMRA awards the latest being Hull and East Yorkshire branch's Pub of the Year . Outside there is a big drinking area at the back and a smaller one at the front with a view of the church.
