Been done-up a bit (not badly but just a bit moderny in colurs) and a has little less charm as a consequence but the two glass and wood side snugs off the corridor remain fairly traditional and the pub has a * CAMRA Heritage rating. An early opener which is handy to know for a Saturday crawl. Four cask on the go, 2x Wye Valley, St Austell Proper Job and Hobsons Prickly Pale (NBSS 3).

Fortunately not much changed here, bar the freshly-painted exterior which looked nice. Ales: Bewdley Worcestershire (good shape), Hobsons Prickly Hog, Thwaites Wainwright, Doom Bar and Pride all available. Halves came in Guinness glasses and the service from one of the staff was a little perfunctory. A lot of character but I do feel that they could go up an extra notch here and be an essential visit. A 10 minute walk up the hill from the city centre, this terraced building is a proper locals pub sporting a multi-roomed interior; a through corridor, the main bar off to the left via a sliding door, with two smaller snug rooms to right with another larger room further on. The main bar is fairly plain whilst the side rooms are more comfy, if all a little mid-60’s in their décor. Four ales on with Enville, Spire, Cannon Royal and Hobsons featuring which were all in good form. Beware the noticeable mark-up on halves. One downside were the staff who seemed rather surly if you weren’t local (and, on one occasion, appeared to deliberately serve others behind us in the buggins order). At 10:45am it was already getting busy, with a number of old boys watching the trooping of the colour on the TV in the main bar. Food was limited to cobs behind the bar at £1.50 a go, which were good. Other pub features included a large function room with an active skittle alley and happy hour, which is a bit of a rarity these days in proper pubs. It opens at 10am on Saturdays so is a perfect place to start a crawl. I’d make the effort to walk out here again next time, hopefully the staff will be more smiley. Rated 7

Blue Scrumpy left this review about Bell

This is a fairly decent pub on the St John's side of the River Severn. You enter into a corridor with the large bar on the left and 2 smaller side rooms off the corridor to the right-hand side.

The bar is roughly a rectangular shape with tables all along the length. All were occupied, apart from an odd one on the short side of the rectangle next to the window. Sitting there felt like the whole pub was watching me. In fact, they probably were, as before I could finish my beer a bloke turned up to begin setting up the evening's entertainment. This looked as if it might be karaoke. So, I drank up quite swiftly so as not to disrupt the fun!

4 real ales were on - Sharp's Doom Bar, Wye Valley HPA, Hobson's Town Crier & The Hop Shed Buckeye Best Bitter. My Buckeye was in decent condition, but felt a little rushed due to circumstances. I'd imagine that if you could bag a spot in one of the side rooms at a quieter time, you could have quite a relaxing time here.

Old Boots left this review about Bell

An old multiroom pub badged as M&B but selling a mix of national casks - London Pride and Doombore plus locals from Teme Valley and Hobsons as well as the usual tap stuff. The building is interesting with a mix of fake and genuine oldness as well as the glass walled snugs off the other side of the central corridor to the public bar. Furnished traditionally with bench seating and Britannia and other cast iron based tables. Busy and noisy from the jukebox of a Friday evening it benefits from a couple of big tellys in the public, BBC News on one, Racing UK on the other. Not a bad locals pub although the service wasn't up to scratch the beer quality was fine, GBG listed.
