Mamble is a quite village - and the local pub is hanging on, gaining trade mainly from diners.

I am working my way through a 1960s pub guide book and the picture there shows a timber framed building. It's either had the timbers removed or has been plastered over, providing a look that belies its age. It's rather anonymous looking.

Front door doesnt open. Access via a side door from the rear car park. A corridor, where there is a bar marked with railway "first class lounge" signage. This seemed an obvious place to plonk myslef, but was in darkness - although the log fire was let. I tried to investigate through an internal door, which led to a fine dining area, blocked by an additional table.

The central bar is shared between the bar and restuarant and a friendly landlady illuminated the bar for me. Two real ales on - I think one was Wainwright but the chosen - a Three Tuns Charter (rarely seen) was in absolutely top class condition.
