Oh dear. It's now a white and grey nothingness with a warm half of Waddies 6X (NBSS 2) served-up by an over-familiar barman. Custom consisted of me, his mate and a couple of older ladies who I think may have been trying it out. What a nosedive from the previously excellent pub it was (the former licensee of the glory years now runs the TAPhouse a few doors down).

Attractive olde worlde frontage entices you in. This pub is actually only been going a few years in its current guise, as it was converted from a chippy in 2006 (pre WWI it was a pub…!). Enter to a bare boarded front bar sporting four ales with a nice parlour feel to it, especially with no music on (or fruits or kids), just the ticking of a clock and gentle murmur of conversation. Green paintwork in this room, alongside a stove fireplace and punch sheet music decorating the beams. Through a corridor to a small servery with four proper ciders. Beyond this is a skittle alley, with a patio garden to the right. We fortuitously arrived during a beer festival, which was set up on stillage in the skittle alley. We tried a few and they were all in excellent shape. The friendly and helpful barman in the main room reminded me of Julius from the Thick of It, bit of ringer. Food on our visit limited to olives and cheeseboards which will usually do me. Collection of old GBGs also available to peruse. I really liked this one (beer festival or not) and would specifically make a trip back to Warminster to re-do. Really good and the best reason to alight from the train! Rated 9
