A castle rock pub and one of the very best in Nottingham. 12 real ales available with London pride, harvest pale, elsie mo and screech owl always available along with another 2 or three from the castle rock range, the rest are all ever changing guests. The beers are always in good condition and have recently been reduced by 20-30p a pint due to castle rock scrapping their loyalty card. This means most beers are £3 or under with harvest pale £2.70, preservation £2.90, black gold £2.50 and sherrifs tipple £2.40. There guest beers are usually very exciting and recently featured Chiswick bitter, very un-exciting for many from the south but a rarity and a real treat for us further up.
All in all an excellent pub and by far the best pub on Mapperly top, only thing stopping this being a 10 is its bare eating side that is a bit plain and lifeless if you ever end up their when the bar area is too busy which can be often, but really I am picking this is an excellent pub and well with a visit. An 8.5

Now this is a pub worth countless revisits. I have been in this place numerous times despite me living in Leeds. It's a Castle Rock pub with the best selection of their beers I have seen and there are various guest beers on offer. As per usual, I had Screech Owl which was excellent. Get yourselves in there if you like decent beer.

We had received a good few recommendations to visit the Bread and Bitter and have to say we were not disappointed. This large Castle Rock pub had 12 handpumps offering a lot of good beer. A nice suprise was to find Jarrow Brewery Red Ellen, which slipped down nicely. Friendly bar staff here, and the customers were also friendly and chatty. Well worth a visit.
