A late evening revisit before the start of the Offa’s Dyke path the following day. Sub-par pints of Exmoor Gold (NBSS 2) and Cairngorm Trade Winds (2.5). So a mild improvement, cask-wise. About a dozen other people in, it must be the tourist coin that keeps this one off the disposals list.

Large and fairly modern split-level JDW with some good front windows for people spotting those staggering up and down the hill. Usual JDW stylings inside though I was rather taken with the Art Deco style fireplace and mirror topper. Two sets of outside seating, a bit unusual. Positives end there; two genuine guest ales alongside the stagers, the Goddards Fuggle was undrinkable muck (NBSS 1) replaced by Hobgoblin with a faint taste of line cleaner (NBSS 0.5) by a staff member who had not a shit left to give. One of the two coffee machines was on the blink; upon politely telling the barman I basically got a 'so what' response. Terrible, needs a demon manager, a staff clear-out and a reset. No wonder it was almost empty (how often can you say that about a Spoons on a Sunday afternoon??) whilst the Tuns was doing a brisk trade. Rated 2.5
