This is a great looking Victorian pub, with a touch of Gothic, which now looks a little tired. The pub has fine features; in cream, half in stucco and half in render, it has dormer windows on the top storey, bow windows in the middle tier and the ground floor has an ornate canopy over the entrance. It has a patio. The interior has a couple of rooms. The larger room is at the front. This room is in cream, patterned wallpaper and wood panel, with patterned carpet and stone fireplace. It seemed mainly to be set-up for food, but i didn't eat so can't comment on that. Old photos and prints are on the walls, and jars and bottles are dotted about. Up a few steps, there is the back room. It is in a clay and red decor, with cream ceiling - it also has a fireplace and the same kind of ephemera. There was general music at a decent level, i didnt notice a TV. The service was OK and a few poeple were in eating. Beer; usual tap stuff, with Pedigree, Sheppy Neame Whitstable Bay and Thakston's Bitter on handpull - the Theakston's was fine. A decent enough pub for a pint, but not a place i could stay all day in.

Previous review was pretty accurate. Bers at time of visit were Theakstons Best and Directors. I don't often say this but it would benefit from a refurb.

The Old John Peel Inn is in the centre of Bowness but just away from the shops and the crowds of people who visit here during the summer.
Once inside the bar was facing and the room was carpeted and had bench seating and normal tables and chairs there were also a few steps up to another room that was smaller than the lower room but similar in style.
There were three real ales on here i had a drink of Caledonian Flying Scotsman and this was a decent drink the other beers were Hobgoblin and Theakston best.
The pub was decent enough but seemed a little dowdy.
