Under an iron arch that reads “JT Davies EST 1875” is a front garden with a central walkway that passes covered picnic tables up the left and right as it leads to the pub’s entrance. Inside are two bars with a bare board bar up the left and a tile floored bar up the right. Off to the right is a bare board open plan seating area with a green tiled fireplace on the right-hand wall. To the right some high stools and barrel tables run across the front windows and up the left-hand wall opposite the bar to more barrels at the rear. Standard keg was available alongside a premium option and one of the five hand pumps was in use. I decided to have half a Stella that was served by the friendly barman.

Attractive 18th-century building set behind a courtyard beer garden with an array of wooden pods and other outdoor seating looking miserable in the rain. No real character left inside unfortunately, with a partly opened-out layout featuring some modern wood-panelling in the bar extending back to the left of the main entrance and a smaller dining room on the right-hand side. Although it initially appeared that none of the bank of five handpumps was operational, one turned out to be dispensing Brakspear's Oxford Gold (£4.80) despite a reversed pump clip.

Another name change and it's now called JT Davies. Much the same as Quinno's 2011 review below, with four pumps on offering Brakspear Bitter, Oxford Gold, Hobgoblin Gold and a pretty decent Ringwood Razor Back. A Premier League game was playing on a large screen in the bar area and a DJ was spinning some Northern Soul vinyl at the rear, which made for an unusual, yet pleasant diversion.
