A large stand alone freehouse pub, which has a good turn over of various cask ales. As you can imagine the interior is big with the main bar positioned in the central part of the pub. The bar area has a flagstone floor and the side section has a low beamed ceiling, displaying a host of pump clips.
The bar area is long and curved, with old style bar stools, along with a polished brass rail along the bar counter. Five ales chalked up on a board behind the bar on my Tuesday afternoon visit, a very legible beer board naming the beer, strength and price. The line up was Golden Pippin, Scott's 1816, Phoenix Haywood Pale, Cross Bay and Robinsons Unicorn. I went for the Haywood Pale, which was sublime and only £3.80 a pint.

Large premises with an equally large car park at a busy traffic junction in Rufford.
Inside, the bar is surrounded by numerous seating areas, with well spaced out tables. I sat in the wood-panelled area mentioned below. Clientele were a good mixture of diners and drinkers. Quite a few drinkers were hogging the bar area and all were in good spirits on my Saturday evening visit.
The beer range was amongst the best I'd noted on my Lancashire crawl. Moorhouse's White Witch is the regular beer. Guests were Copper Dragon Golden Pippin, Blackedge Platinum & Latte & Acorn Yorkshire Pride. I chose the Latte, a white stout which was easily my favourite beer of the day. They no longer serve a real cider.
This pub had a good atmosphere and was certainly one of my two favourite pubs of the day, alongside the Red Lion at Wheelton. I think the Red Lion just about pipped it.

Well described below - a really nice and traditional roadside pub, especially the bar and pleasant wood panelled area to the right. Good banter at the bar and very friendly Lancashire service. 5 ales - two from Moorhouses, plus OSB, Black Edge and Reedly Hallows - and a Westons cider were on from 9 handpumps. These are all listed on a blackboard behind the bar. The place is large and has a sizeable dining area but this was empty of an afternoon.
