This is a rather unusual bar, set inside a wide stone building, which has a bit of a sports club feel to it. You enter into a shallow but very wide room with tartan carpeting, exposed stone walls and a small servery on the back wall, slightly to the right of the entrance. There's a decent seating space to the left, with plenty of tables and chairs plus a plush banquette around the rear wall. More of the same can be found opposite the bar, with some small round tables and low stools in support. The bar has a backlit counter front with a timber top and a fairly plain bar back. Two steps leading up to the right-hand side of the room, take you into a bare boarded space with high tables and stools to the front and a pool table in the centre. This area has a typical public bar feel, enhanced by the presence of a dartboard and a large TV screen showing muted Saturday night programming whilst an excellent soul soundtrack played in the background. There is also a huge panaoramic image of Morecambe Bay along the back wall here, which is worth checking out. A few bits of quirky decor have been dotted around, plus a fair bit of owl themed tat and some other TV screens which were not in use. Out the front is a big outdoor seating area, which includes a long row of sheltered bench booths.
On the bar, there were five handpulls, but these presented an unhappy ratio of two beers (Theakston Wainwright (£4.00 a pint) and Black Sheep Bitter) versus three unclipped handles. It was quite busy when I visited, but even so, the pub still had quite a chiled vibe for a Saturday evening.
I made a bit of a blunder adding this place to my crawl, as I'd mistakenly thought it was another micropub, so it was a bit of a shock when I discovered something very different. It's quite a quirky place that seemed friendly enough and had a decent drop of Wainwright, but it's not exactly a destination pub and if tight for time, the nearby Little Bare is the obvious pub to go for.

a curious looking cottage style pub, decorated in that trendy modern rustic style. it's a really really nice example of the style though and far better than the soulless Dog and Patridge around the corner. four real ales on and an interesting selection too from Hawkshead, Cross Bay and Coniston. friendly service and extensive jukebox add two more points to the score. bravo!
