An excellent GBG pub just off the high street so devoid of grockles and a great local. The layout remains as described by others, below, plus we should mention the open fire. The young barman was a bit surly, but he was overshadowed by the friendliness of a couple of regulars who were happy to chat. No food on offer, sadly. Ales on were Caledonian Deuchres, Otter Ale, Crop Circle, Old Speckled Hen, and two from Cerne Abbas: Christmas and Tiger Tom. There were also 4 boxed ales behind the bar. Keg offerings were Guinness, Appleseed Cider, Rattler, Atlantic Storm, Dortmunder Vier and Madri. I was informed that the ladies' lavatory was very nice and told to include that in my review. Whatever. The best pub in Bridport, in my opinion, and one which continues to burn bright.

GBG 2023 entry.
Smart back street boozer. Large beer garden to side. Rear beer garden (Although closed on our visit). Two drinking rooms both smartly decorated with solid wooden tables, wall mounted benches. Lowish beamed roof with hanging dried hops.
Cask selection was unusual (at least to me). Butcombe Cotswold Ram (Which may be a new name for Rare Breed) and Parkway Norwegian Blue (a session bitter) were both sampled. The first a little tired. The 2nd exceptionally good.
A lot of "locals" who all had cockney accents :-)
Pleasant place to drink... the town with three other GBG entries and this pub.

Smallish local free house just off the town centre. On my early evening visit there were quite a few evident regulars in the main room, to the left and the other side of the bar is a second room which must historically have been the lounge bar, and there are courtyard gardens to the side and rear. It felt cosy, with various old pictures on the walls and hops hanging down from the ceiling beams and over the windows.
Four ale pumps at the bar offered Dartmoor’s Summer Gold or Legend, Sharp’s Cornish Coaster, and Otter Bitter. The signage claimed five real ales, and the board also announced Doombar and Summer Lightning, so I imagine one or both of these would have been drawn from somewhere behind the bar. All of the beers were priced at £2.50-£3.00, and there were also four cider taps on the bar, two of them serving Thatcher’s varieties (I couldn’t see what was on the other two). I paid £2.50 for an excellent pint of Summer Gold.
The sign outside used to promise food at weekends, but this has been blacked out, perhaps unsurprisingly as this comes across as a really good boozer rather than anything else. I wish I could have stayed longer, but I only had time for a quick pint: I very much hope for a chance to come back here again.
