An excellent local pub which offers good food, good ale and good company. There is a good sized car park from which various former cottages lead, one of which is a heritage centre dedicated to the local cider trade. There is some outside seating by the entrance to the main pub building, itself formed from former cottages. Inside,you enter into a series of rooms, the first of which is mainly for diners, then you realise there is a proper bar off to one side. This bar is very much a locals' public bar, with only a couple of tables, a dart board and a TV screen which was switched off during our visit. There is also a chimney with a woodburner. The locals were very friendly, were in no way politically correct and we were made to feel at home. The young bar staff were attentive, making sure our dogs had water and we had beer. Food was freshly cooked and very good value. On cask were QPA from Quantock and Innocence from BBF. On keg were Devon Mist, Guinness, Madri, Neck Oil, Thatcher's Haze and Carling. The pub hosts regular charity quiz nights. They also offer 10% CAMRA discount off real ales. I'd be very happy to come back next time I'm passing.
