An very old roadside village pub, with a slightly younger additional building set at right angles. Entrance is to the older part, with a small bar counter immediately in front and two fire places, one at either end, a telling sign that there used to be two rooms where there is now just one. There were a dozen or so people lunching but I was just here for a beer before catching the next 442 bus back towards Buxton. There are four hand pumps, in two sets of two, with Pedigree doubled up and Castle Rock Harvest Pale occupying one of the remaining pumps. I've avoided Pedigree since an evening a few years back when I visited several pubs in Burton on Trent that sold nothing else, so I went for the HP, which was bland and undistinguished, but in good condition. This is a pleasant pub with a nice informal feel - there's another but more formal dining room around the corner in the newer building. Having made a special trip to visit this one, I'd now have to say I agree with Andy (below) and am unlikely to call again.

This is a decent pub that has a few rooms inside we sat in the main room which was quite large but had different drinking areas there was also a choice of board games to play which i thought was a nice touch.
There were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Pedigree which was ok the other beer was Derby Brewing Co Hop Till you Drop.
I thought this was a decent enough pub to have a few drinks in.

A welcoming environment, popular with both young families and more mature couples. The front door leads into the bar with flagstone floor and a wood-beamed ceiling. Two other rooms, to the side and to the rear, are set up for dining.
Beer was the usual tap stuff of Mansfield Dark Smooth Ale, Carlsberg, Kronenberg, Guinness and Strongbow. On handpull there was Pedigree and Derby Brewing Co Storyteller. A GBG 2010 entry and while I would drop in if I was passing, I wouldn’t make a special detour.
