A Good Beer Guide pub on the bus route out of Wadebridge (11 from Plymouth to Padstow, if anyone fancies the trip). It's a 10 minute walk from the bus stop near the showground, but worth it on a fine sunny evening. The pub has been redesigned internally, with some fake stone arches and fireplace, but we won't let that bother us, especially if we see three hand pumps in an out of the way place like this. Clearly it has to be food led, but it's great to see a decent real ale offering too. Landlord is ubiquitous these days, but this was in decent condition (NBSS 3.5, maybe 3.25 for being a bit warm), the Padstow May Day 5% was a tad warmer, but is forgiven for being a beer style that can take it, while the third beer - yes, I tried all three - was Otter Bitter, which was as good as I've had it for several years, but only just reached NBSS 3.5 with a bit of help from being the least warm of the three. Maybe there's a problem with the cellar or the cooling system, but a decent overall score on a pretty warm day in the southwest. Maybe I've just turned into a softy on the last day of my sixties!

The Quarryman Inn was the best pub I found in Devon and Cornwall on my latest visit. It was actually my first stop in the two counties.

Arriving on a rather drizzly Tuesday afternoon, I was glad to receive a warm welcome and was also greeted by a choice of 4 real ales. Otter Bitter is currently the regular ale, but I overheard them saying that this will soon be withdrawn. However, I was more attracted to the 3 guest ales, which were all from Cornwall - Skinner's Penny Come Quick, Padstow Brewery Padstow May Day & Firebrand West Coast Session IPA. The Penny Come Quick was a very pleasant milk stout.

I'd read that mobile phones are not allowed. It was sod's law that mine rang whilst I was ordering at the bar! However, they do provide a wifi code. So, I am not sure if the ban is still enforced. Just 4 other customers were in, two in the main bar area and another couple of guys in the games room area, which you pass through on entry.

A cosy Cornish pub, not far off the main A35, along a lane. Well worth making a detour to.

Large pub near the Camel Trail which is part of a holiday /sporting complex. There is a games area, and lounge and dining areas as well as the restaurant. Children and dogs are ok but they ban mobiles. We had beers from Cottage and Skinners, which were fine, and there was also Doom Bar and an Otter beer on.
