Previously the Rat and Parrot, and before that an estate agent’s. It has since gone downhill. Both the name and the atmosphere bring to mind filthy mudholes in forgotten Third World civil war zones. Outside, the street is paved with chewing gum and reeks of stale tobacco, inside the floor is sticky and reeks of stale sweat, not-beer and unrequited testosterone. As well as the single large ground floor bar there is also an upstairs area, but we were unable to gain access due to the overcrowding in the main bar. It’s loud, aggressive, expensive and uncomfortable and has nothing even vaguely resembling decent beer, though on the plus side anyone with a hearing aid will be able to turn it off without losing anything. Sadly the children of this revolution are already being fooled.
