Up-market hotel, restaurant and pub. I was here for the first occasion of Lancashire County Cricket Club playing a first class fixture at the school cricket ground, and I got the impression that extra staff had been brought in for the occasion. My request for a pint of the Blackjack beer on hand pump was met with a demand for £5.20, but the bar manager, observing my consternation, sought me out and refunded 80p because I had been charged for a pint of a keg beer from the same brewery. £4.40 a pint? I reckon I was still overcharged, but it was nice of him to come and find me, so I call it quits. I should really come back at a quieter time for a proper review, but that's all you get for now.

Good traditional pub serving cracking real ales from Black Sheep, Hawkshead, Timothy Taylor - very good food offering and great friendly atmosphere.
