Name promises more than it delivers - usually Spoons cinema conversions are quite canny, but not here. Looks fairly small on entering but there are further tables at a right angle at the far end of the bar. Fairly straightforward and isn't particularly appealing, décor-wise. Just two guest ales, both samey. Adnams Ghost Ship was pedestrian (NBSS 2.5). Wifi broken. Once I’d scoffed my mid-crawl grub I beat a retreat. I wonder when the last time was when Timbo visited this one? 4.5

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Hippodrome (JD Wetherspoon)
Converted cinema dating from 1927, with an odd, slightly raised, wood panelled and semi-enclosed lounge area to break up what would otherwise be a cavernous main space. Not much natural light inside, even in the front lobby, but there is a patio seating area at the front. Two banks of five handpumps, with a duplicated selection of Ruddles, Doom Bar, Abbot, Old Speckled Hen and Slater's Haka (£2.10).

Originally a cinema with an unattractive frontage,it's vast inside with a fully stripped out interior and daft ducting hanging high above with a series of circular lights with lampshades hanging down giving some light to the interior.Above the long right handside bar there are illuminated display cabinets but you wood need a ladder to retrieve the spirit bottles on display.There is a raised section opposite the bar but elsewhere it's quite souless in the way only 'spoons can be.
There are two ranks of 5 handpumps but I was horrified to see the same selection on both.That meant Doom Bar,Ruddles Best and Abbott as regular with guests Hook Norton Old Hooky and Adnams Ghost Ship (past it's best).Guests are £2.09 before voucher discount but with such a poor selection god knows how the local CAMRA branch awarded it GBG 2019 status.The Whatpub puff about supporting local breweries is just plain nonsense.
Not on the list for a revisit,cheap and nasty.
