Knowing that the Crown in neighbouring Hesket Newmarket would not be open when I was in the area, I decided to have a pub stop here. I like Jennings Bitter when it's well kept, but unfortunately the beer here was not just too cold, it was also tainted with diacetyl. There were two other Jennings beers on the bar, and one guest, and my guess would be that there are just not enough drinkers to justify four beers, even in summer. There is a small beer garden to the rear, and a few tables on the edge of the square in front, but the interior of the pub was entirely deserted. It was a lovely sunny day, but the main reason for everyone sitting outside was more likely the inane pop music playing on a video channel in every corner of the building. Quite possibly my worst pub experience of the year, and lucky to score as high as two.
