It's over 40 years since my only previous visit to this pub. On that occasion I was staying at a camp site just north of Hawkshead, which is no longer operating as such, and walked along the road to what was then a Hartleys pub, or if it was after the takeover by Robinsons, then it was still serving Hartleys beers. On recent visits to this part of the Lake District I have been past on the bus and noticed it was closed, but this time I was informed that new managers had moved in and the pub reopened in August. We received a friendly welcome, especially when I mentioned it was 40 years since my last visit! There are two hand pumps on the bar, one with the old Hartleys beer, Cumbrian Way and the other with Dizzy Blonde. I went for the former, for old time's sake, and it was in very good condition (NBSS 3.5). The interior of the pub seemed likely to have been unchanged from four decades ago, but I don't actually have any memory of it - it just looks fairly traditional, though in good condition. The beer garden features industrial quantities of Astroturf, which is a bit disappointing, but if the alternative was concrete perhaps understandable.

Unexciting-looking roadside inn, which is actually quiet pleasant. Inside there is one large room of three areas, reasonably comfortably furnished, with bar at end. Outside areas too. Robinsons beers selection in fine form. Food proved to be genuinely home cooked and very good. Note car park tucked away in turning opposite.
