Blackthorn _ left this review about The Cott Inn
A very attractive thatched pub in this small village just outside Totnes, it’s not likely to get much in the way of passing trade, but was nonetheless extremely busy on our recent Sunday lunchtime visit, where we found a lady with a clipboard out in the car park checking people’s reservations and directing them accordingly. Such is the pub’s popularity, it has expanded in to both a wooden lodge and a marquee adjacent to the main building.
Inside it didn’t disappoint and has retained it’s rustic charm with old flagstones on much of the floor, whitewashed brickwork and plenty of black beams on the ceiling. Real fires were blazing away at each end and there were plenty of festive decorations about, as well as a few copper skillets and some artwork for sale. The downside of it’s popularity was that all the tables were reserved for diners and these were quite tightly packed in, with little space to even stand, and we rather felt like we were in the way wherever we did. As such, we decamped to the adjacent lodge which was quite pleasant with decking boards on the floor, oak beams and a couple of large heaters to keep it cosy, but inevitably it didn’t have the cosy olde world charm of the main pub.
Beers on tap were Old Speckled Hen and Otter Bitter, whilst the solitary cider was Thatcher’s Gold. Overall, certainly a lovely pub, but I’d pick my time more carefully if visiting again in the hope that I could get a seat in the old pub building.
