This is a two-roomed pub with a connecting door between. Two hand pumps can be seen in either room, serving Jennings Cumberland Ale and Moorhouses White Witch. My impression was of a friendly local pub with lunchtime regulars, where a bit of passing tourist trade would be very welcome. All they got was me. My half of Jennings was too cold for my taste, and it's never been a go-to beer for me, when in the area. I hope this pub has busy periods. Perhaps I should return with a crowd of friends.

This is a simple detached stone build, which has a yellow frontage render and green paintwork. The single side lancet window gives this quite plain building the look of a former chapel. There is a small patio area. The interior has a couple of rooms, served by a central island bar. To the left there is the lounge, which is really the dining area - we ate here and the food was fine. This room is in cream, wallpaper, wood panel, with a bit of coffee and a patterned carpet. Old photos are on the walls and there was no TV. The room was quite full of diners. The second room is the bar. It is an L-shaped room, in green and wallpapered walls, with green perimeter leather seating and general bar tables. There is a dart board and general prints on the walls. Music was from the jukebox and there was a good mixed clientele. The service was friendly. Beer; usual tap stuff with Theakston's MILD and Lancaster Gold and a decent Cumberland Corby Blonde on handpull. This is a nice little place and definitely worth a pop in - very much enjoyed
